Feb. 12th, 2024 04:36 pmThe Kingdom of the Pridelands is, according to official diplomatic messages, enjoying a time of peace and prosperity. In the years since coming to the throne, King Scar has been keen to consolidate his rule and make sure that all rebellious activity is quashed. The dissident group that killed the King's brother, King Mufasa, all those years ago has been found and defeated by the King's private military unit, a group of ruthless men and women known as the Hyena Guard. The same unit also polices the streets of the country's capital, Pride Rock, and visitors all comment on how clean and well maintained that city is.
Then, by glorious chance and the delight of the royal family, a year ago the King's nephew, Prince Simba was found on the streets of Pride Rock and returned to his grateful family. Simba had been presumed dead in the same rebel attack that kills his father, and has now been welcomed back into his uncle's palace with open arms.
And now, to mark the anniversary of this great event, it has been decided that the best way to improve the Pridelands' international standing is to forge an alliance with another country. So Scar's ambassadors approached a number of other royal families, putting feelers out for alliances - specifically alliances that could be cemented by the joining in marriage of an eligible prince or princess with Scar's eligible nephew.
Simba, of course, is indifferently compliant with his uncle's wishes. He doesn't really care, and he's probably a good catch on paper. Except for two secrets that he holds close to his heart.
The first of these is that he, Simba, killed his father. And King Scar knows this - it's only the generous good will of the King keeping Simba from being exposed and arrested at any time. So the sooner he can get out of the country, probably the better.
The other is that, even since being 'discovered' a year ago, he's been regularly sneaking out of the palace from under his uncle's nose in order to meet up with the friends he made in his years on the streets, living under the name 'Guy Adamson.' Some of this closest friends know that he's nobility, because the ability to shapeshift into a lion form is a talent that's only found in particular bloodlines, but no one has ever asked his real name, or even reacted when his situation changed. He needs his second life: it's the only thing preventing the restrictions of palace line driving him insane.
Tonight, he snuck out because the imminant arrival of one of his potential betrotheds is making the palace feel even more oppressive. It tuned out to be a lucky coincidence though. Apparently there've been sightings of a werewolf in one of the royal parks, and 'Guy' has to shift and try to find the poor sod, before the Hyena Guard are alerted and put it down for good.
